Ayrshire Credit Union is a financial cooperative, owned and controlled by our members. We offer financial services to suit your needs, operating on the principle of a common bond.
Our History
Our Credit Union was established in 1994 by a small group of volunteers. It was originally registered as Kilmarnock Co-operative Credit Union and open for 2 hours per week. In 2012 we extended our common bond to serve anyone who lives or works in Ayrshire and changed the name to Ayrshire Credit Union to reflect the community which we serve. We are now open 5 days per week and are still primarily run by volunteers including our volunteer Board of Directors. We currently have excellent town centre premises in Kilmarnock.
What is a credit union?
- A Credit Union is a community savings and loans co-operative. Members pool their savings to lend to one another. Members own the credit union.
- A responsible alternative source of savings and loans run for the benefit of members, not external shareholders.
- If there is a surplus at the end of the trading year the credit union may pay a dividend to members.
- Credit unions aim to help you take control of your money by encouraging you to save what you can, and borrow only what you can afford to repay.
